Ella is a peaceful small village in the middle of a beautiful green countryside, with spectacular views, about 1000 meters above sea level. Most visitors to Ella come for the hiking trails. The most well-known being the hikes to Little Adam’s Peak and to Ella Rock. It’s best to do the treks early in the morning as it is common for the rain to pour down in the afternoon. Both hiking destinations will give you beautiful sprawling views of the Sri Lankan country side.
The privileged location of the town between the lowland rainforests and the highland tea plantations makes for a great rest stop while touring Sri Lanka. Ella is a great area for backpackers and luxury travelers alike. There are all sorts of accommodations and the food is varied in the restaurants that line the main road.
